Echo Show Review 8

product review australian super

Amazon's Echo Show 8 will appeal to those looking for a smart device that does more than just display music. It's also a solid option for those who don't mind putting up with a mediocre screen and a camera that auto-frames while video calling.

The Echo Show 8 has an 8-inch touchscreen with a resolution that isn't the highest of all Echo devices, but it is still bright and clear enough to view most media. There is also a 13 megapixel camera that has a large field of view. It can frame your subject for you automatically, and the tracking feature keeps you in the picture when you make video call.

Alexa is a voice-activated assistant that allows you to control your entertainment and music with simple voice commands. You can watch TV shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video, or ask it to play your favorite music from Amazon Music, Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, Hungama Music, Gaana, or other services.

Like most Echo devices you can add widgets on the homescreen to personalize your experience. These include weather, calendars as well as fun sticky notes to leave reminders. They are all simple to set up, and you can add them with just one command. The widgets don't have as many customization options as other Echo devices. But they do allow you to customize the experience of your smart home.

You can also turn off the voice activation by sliding a shutter on the device. Use the microphone mute, located on the left side of the phone, to mute it when not using.

The device can be controlled by your Android or iOS phone, the Amazon App or any Bluetooth enabled device. You can pair an Echo Show and compatible speakers together to create a stereo system and get extra bass and high-end.

It is also possible to use an Amazon Echo Show with devices that allow Alexa-enabled voice calling. So you can chat in your livingroom with friends and relatives. This feature is especially useful when video calling remote coworkers and friends who do not have a Show.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the echo show 8 is quite good, but it can be a bit bass-heavy at low volume. It is possible to overcome this problem by either playing your favourite music louder or by changing the volume in the Alexa application on your smartphone.

The Echo Show 8 does not come with a 3.5-millimeter audio auxiliary connector for external speakers. This is a shame, as it would've made it more versatile.

Note that Echo show 8 is an Amazon-branded product and requires an Amazon account for use. Signing up for a new account is possible through the Alexa application on an iPhone or Android.
